    CS:Source Tournament

I want a counter-strike (preferrably source) tournament. I've been here since January, and I've only heard of one such tournament at Dibbz PC Cafe... but i missed it. Also, i'd like to know if there are any NOLA-based clans/teams for CS.

Yes we do need a CS Source tournament. My team is also from Baton Rouge, LA. Maybe we can get some scrims against each other. You guys playing in CAL this season?

I live in Baton Rouge, and got to LSU. My team is in cal-o right now, not a baton rouge team though. #Terminus

    Re: CS:Source Tournament

I've been looking for a serious team to practice with. I woop ass in pub-play, but I've only had miniscule experience with team-play. It ended up that my friend (apprentice) and myself were carrying the clan, so we dropped them to focus on school. Around 2008-2009, I'll have graduated from college, and I plan on taking a year off to do shit I wanna do... namely compete in the CPL. I just have to find a clan/team to work with until that time. If any of your teams are serious and looking for players, send me an e-mail at seththewhite@yahoo.com, or just post your address- i'll contact you.

That friend I mentioned (MowLesta) and myself are going to the 2006 CPL Championships in Dallas in December. I'm going to post something about it... you guys should look for it... and sign-up. We're trying to get a 6-man team together to compete in the (BYOC) Day of Defeat tournament... but we're really just going to see the skillz of the CPL teams.

I am in CAL-O also. I play for OTH Gaming. We are not very good, but we like to play. I am hosting a LAN in Baton Rouge latter this month. Maybe after that is done I will look at running a small CS Source tournament.

    Re: CS:Source Tournament

Is CPL still running CS 1.6 tournaments?  Last I checked they still had not held a CSS tournament.  I would like to hold CSS tournaments at NOLAFF once again, but as I have always said you guys drum up the user base and support and then we will hold the tournament.  The new site may allow us to do things for tournaments that we have not been able to do in the past such as tournament registration.  Once we have some more bugs worked out of the site we will have to look into what our custom registration program can do.  But if your interested build teams/clans, and spread the word.  The more support we have the more likley you will see a CSS tournament.

CPL is still running CS 1.6. They ran one CSS tournament, I think it was last year.

    Re: CS:Source Tournament

The reason why there hasn't been one is because there is never a big enuff turn out...let alone demand for a tournament at the lan centers like XGE, Dibbz and ICE.....They hold the tournaments to make a profit and if they dont make a profit its not worth the time....At ICE the last 1.6 tourny it was an alrite turn out but afterward alot of things were broken that had to be replaced...so profit was lost... Point is that it is real hard to hold a tourny with profit!

    Re: CS:Source Tournament

Well you only have to worry about profit if you have a large prize for the tournament (which is usually the biggest cost for to any public LANparty).  What really needs to happen in order for ANY game to have a tournament is large support for that game.  Clans/Teams are the biggest support for any game because they come prepared to play and that helps add to the competitive nature of the game and it affects other gamers as well (it's more of a challenge that way).  What is even better is when you have a Clan/Team that is not dedicated soley to one game because the support of that Clan/Team can go to any game which helps the LAN to be more fun because no matter what game is being played you have some competition in that game (therefore more gamers at the LANparty are happy because they have competition to play against).

One of the problems for any LANparty is having sooo many games to choose from.  By having tournaments your aiming to hold a competition for only the most popular games that most people will enjoy and therefore draw a large crowd.  Once you have a dedicated amount of gamers, clans, or teams then and only then do large prize tournaments really become feasible.  NOLAFF has in the past accomplished this task and we have had clans come in from as far as Texas to compete, but this was before Katrina and there is not telling how many gamers are still in town and have the time to commite  themselves  and others to a tournament.  I mean we can hold a tournament for any game, but it's not really that much fun if only 8 gamers want to play in that tournament.  I mean how much fun would two teams of 4 gamers each really be?  That wouldn't be much of a tournament.

    Re: CS:Source Tournament

Maybe a tournament is not the right answer. Maybe a one day CS Source boot camp. Get 2-3 teams that would like to scrim each other all day. I am sure my team would be up for this. It would help draw some intrest to the local CS scene.
