Well you only have to worry about profit if you have a large prize for the tournament (which is usually the biggest cost for to any public LANparty). What really needs to happen in order for
ANY game to have a tournament is large support for that game. Clans/Teams are the biggest support for any game because they come prepared to play and that helps add to the competitive nature of the game and it affects other gamers as well (it's more of a challenge that way). What is even better is when you have a Clan/Team that is not dedicated soley to
one game because the support of that Clan/Team can go to any game which helps the LAN to be more fun because no matter what game is being played you have some competition in that game (therefore more gamers at the LANparty are happy because they have competition to play against).
One of the problems for any LANparty is having sooo many games to choose from. By having tournaments your aiming to hold a competition for only the most popular games that most people will enjoy and therefore draw a large crowd. Once you have a dedicated amount of gamers, clans, or teams then and only then do large prize tournaments really become feasible. NOLAFF has in the past accomplished this task and we have had clans come in from as far as Texas to compete, but this was before Katrina and there is not telling how many gamers are still in town and have the time to commite themselves and others to a tournament. I mean we can hold a tournament for any game, but it's not really that much fun if only 8 gamers want to play in that tournament. I mean how much fun would two teams of 4 gamers each really be? That wouldn't be much of a tournament.
